This tour was an experience of a lifetime and this is no exaggeration. My wife and another couple took this tour and it was the last stop on an 8 day cruise. We had spent 5 prior nights in Rome and to this point Rome was the highlight of our trip. Then we arrived and met "Crazy Carmine." We told Carmine we really weren't interested in ruins and told him what we really wanted to do is spend some time as a local Italian. Carmine knew exactly what to do and where to take us.
With no plans but leaving it up to Carmine we began our trek in a comfortable, clean Mercedes van. We asked Carmine any question that came to mind and he was very accommodating. We stopped in a city (Sorrento I think) and Carmine gave us an hour to shop in the local market. Carmine suggested we take a ride up to a mountain top where an Italian lady owns and runs a restaurant/farm where everything served is made right on her property, including the wine. The drive up the mountain was absolutely breathtaking. Carmine stopped for rest room breaks as needed and as well as espresso stops.
We finally arrived at the farm after several stops for photo opportunities. The name of
the restaurant was Fattotia la Tagliata. Carmine knows the family and took us to a tour of the farm prior to lunch. While walking thru the farm Carmine picked fresh figs off trees (pure candy!!) as well as several spices for us to try. We were sat at a table and had a meal served to us that we all said was the best we ever had. (We didn't even get a menu.) This included several bottles of wine and when we got the bill it was a lot less than we would have paid for a meal at Carrabbas is USA. We were so full but managed to finish dessert, homemade lemon cello and berry cello and took with us many bottles of their homemade wine and cello.
We began to make our way back down the mountain singing Italian songs at the top of our lungs such as "Volare'" and "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's AMORE'" with Carmine on lead vocals. Carmine stopped half way down the mountain where he ran into a hole in the wall and brought out 4 of the best tasting gelato we had had all vacation.
We made it down the mountain and Carmine took us all the way to the other coast for yet another breathtaking view of all the cities we visited. Carmine drove us back to the cruise terminal with plenty of time to spare and we again stopped for espresso.
We are all in shock over this tour. We are all also in mourning we are back home. This tour was the highlight of the trip, easily, on a trip of a lifetime. I will not attach any photos because you have to see it to believe it. If you EVER go to Naples, you must take this tour, and of course ask for "Crazy Carmine."
